JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination Main) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into various undergraduate engineering and architecture programs offered by top engineering colleges in India. It is one of the most popular engineering entrance exams in India and is held twice a year, typically in January and April.

JEE Main is a computer-based test consisting of multiple-choice questions from subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The exam duration is 3 hours, and the total marks are 300. The number of questions in JEE Main varies depending on the paper and subjects chosen by the candidate. The exam has two papers:

  • Paper 1 - For admission to B.E/B.Tech courses
  • Paper 2 - For admission to B.Arch/B.Plan courses

For Paper 1, there are a total of 90 questions consisting of 30 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each question carries four marks, and one mark is deducted as a negative mark for every wrong answer.

For Paper 2, there are a total of 77 questions consisting of 25 questions each in the Mathematics and Aptitude Test and two questions in the Drawing Test. The Mathematics and Aptitude Test questions carry four marks each, and the Drawing Test is for a total of 100 marks. There is negative marking only in Mathematics and Aptitude Test sections.

Candidates who qualify for JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

JEE Main scores are also used by many other engineering colleges and institutions across India for admission into their undergraduate engineering programs. The exam is highly competitive, and lakhs of students appear for it every year.
